The JSES Newsette cartoonists gear up for RSPC 2023, 9 scribes secure victories in the division competition

        The JSES Newsette editorial cartoonists, Kadmiel Seth Santos, 5-Darwin, and Karylle L. Estrada, 6-Diamond, ranked first in the recent 2023 Division of Pasay Schools Press Conference held at Epifanio delos Santos Elementary School on May 5-6, 2023.

        Trained by one of the JSES veteran and award-winning campus journalism coaches, Ms. Rubby Ann Camu, the cartoonists earned qua-lifications for the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) 2023 to be held at the Division of Pasig City on June 6-7, 2023.

      Nine local scribes received awards in different categories in the same. In English categories the winners are: Juan Ian Antonio D. Cabingue, 7th place – Newswriting; Jerome S. Calma, 10th Place – Editorial Writing; Xeandi Raizen Brecenio, 3rd Place – Sports Writing; and Carlos Reily Agripa, 5th Place – Copyreading and Headline Writing.
In Filipino, the winners are: Sophia Pauline Hernandez, 7th Place – Pagsulat ng Balita; Blessy Bernice G. Salamanes, 8th Place – Pagsulat ng Lathalain; Tzoe Tzenm D. Failorin, 5th Place – Pagsulat ng Balitang Pampalakasan; and Cyrish Issa S. Conanan, 6th Place – Pagwawasto at Pag-uulo.
Mr. Noel Junio, JSES chief, expressed pride and admiration for the accomplishments of JSES campus writers and their coaches.
The winning scribes were trained by seasoned writing coaches namely: Ms. Analyn D. Recinto, Ms. Carla Jane D. Angeles, Ms. Shirley C. Cada, Ms, Diane J. Bagsic and Ms. Irene Bernardino
In a related development, DepEd Memo No 024 s. 2023 signed by the Under-secretary for Curriculum and Teaching Gina O. Gonong, by the authority of Department of Education Secretary and Vice-President Se-cretary Sara Duterte, the 2023 National Schools Press Conference (NSPC), considered as the Olympics of writing contests in the Philip-pines for campus jour-nalists, will be hosted by Region X.
With the theme, “From Campus Journalism to Real-World Journalism: Shaping Minds from Schools to Societies,” the national competition will be held at Cagayan de Oro on July 17 to 21, 2023.
